Chinese values and tradition
will be the focus of Creightons first Non-Western Culture Week, to be held in the Student Center and various
classrooms from April 18 to 23. Featured
speakers and performers will include award-winning Taiwanese poet-playwright Tsai Yi-Chun,
philosophy professor Xuezhi Zhang of Peking University, and several Creighton faculty members and students. The general topic of the week is How to
Achieve Harmony in the World from an Eastern Perspective. The event, supported by the College of Arts and Sciences and
the College of Business Administration, is intended to enhance Creighton students global
education. Also featured will be Chinese
calligraphy lessons and contests, Chinese films, the premiere of an original Chinese play
by a Creighton faculty member who has won the prestigious Unitas literature award, poetry
readings, Chinese food, and demonstrations of Chinese violin and vocal works from Beijing
Opera. There will be discussions of Chinese history and philosophy, Creighton classes
taught by visiting non-Western scholars, and a traditional Chinese dress show by students
from the Creighton Chinese Student Association. Non-Western
Culture Week is planned to be an annual event at Creighton, with different cultures to be
featured each year. This years complete
