As with all social
issues, globalization forces us to reconsider every component of modern
life. An outbreak of a previously unknown disease on the other
side of the globe may appear in a U.S. hospital within days, as occured
with the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, or SARS virus. The Global Health Studies Track is designed for students who anticipate a career in a health related field. They will study how different cultures view health issues and develop an understanding of the social and cultural influences on definition, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. They will also compare health policy practices in different societies, as well as technologies and tools for addressing health concerns. |
