The School of the Heart Vicariate of Bontoc-Lugawe December 11 - 29 |
The Vicariate of Bontoc-Lugawe comprises two geographical provinces of the Republic of the Philippines: Mountain and Ifugao provinces. Located in the heart of the Cordillera Mountain Range which runs north and south down the center of Luzon, this area is famous for its rugged landscape, tropical forests and spectacularly engineered rice and vegetable terraces. So too, the peoples there remain rich in their traditional cultures and tightly knit communities. The bishop of the area is Francisco Claver, S.J., himself a native of Bontoc.Three Jesuit Tertians, Hans Kleist, S.J., Petr Pradka, S.J. and Raymond Bucko, S.J. were assigned to this area for Christmas Ministries in 1998.
Petr has written a reflection on Chirstmas Ministries in the Czech language.
Ray has provided a series of photographs which he took during his travels which will give you some idea of the beauty of the area and its people. The photo series include the journey from Baguio to Bontoc; views of Bontoc; the trip from Bontoc to Banaue; glimpses of a wedding celebration; and the scenery of Kiangan and Asipolo
