Meet The Tertians

September 1998 - March 1999




Welcome! Below are short biographies of all the tertains who are engaged in the program this year. If an individual's name appears in hypertext, click on the link to find out more biographical information. There are also links to the apostolic works of some of the participants.

There are 12 members of the tertianship program from throughout the world who work in equally diverse areas at a wide variety of apostolates. Ivan is a brother while the rest serve as priests.

Ignasius Swasono is from Indonesia and left work as a chaplain and youth worker to attend the program.

Petrus Pramudyarkara is also from Indonesia and in engaged in campus ministry work.

Petr Pradka is from the Czech Republic and worked as a school chaplain before coming to Tertianship. He has also written a reflection on the first month of tertianship and The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius and a reflection on Christmas Ministry. He also has written on his experiences duriing the final phases of Tertianship, from January 1999 until departure in mid-March.. All of these pieces are in Czech.

Protas Opondo, from Kenya, teaches practical theology and Catholic Social Teaching at Hekima College. He also works as an assitant pastor at St. St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kangemi, Nairobi Kenya. He holds two degrees in Social Work Administration and Pastoral Theology from Boston College in the United States.

Arulanandu Nirmalaraj is from the Dumka-Raiganj Province in the North-East of India. He has been working at St. Ignatius High School, Majlispur, West Bengal as Assistant Headmaster and hostel superintendent.

Richard McAuliff is from the New York province and works as the Pastor of Assumption Parish in Majuro, the Marshall Islands.

Albertus Mardi Santosa of the Indonesian Province does community organizing work for the The Jakarta Social Institute (JSI) in Jakarta.

Hans Jürgen Kleist is from Southern Germany and worked until Tertianship the College of St. Blasien. The German Provinces also administer two other schools: Alouisius Kolleg in Bonn and Canisius Kolleg in Berlin.

Iván Doszpoly, originally from Hungary, is a member of the Japanese province and serves as a librarian at serves as a librarian at Sophia University in Tokyo.

Renzo De Luca is from Argentina and currently works in the Jesuit parish and martyrs' shirne in Nagasaki, Japan. Renzo has also written some reflections on being a missionary today.

Louis Caruana is from Malta and is a professor of philosophy specializing in the philosophy of science at the Gregorian University.

Raymond Bucko is a professor of anthropology at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York and works with the Lakota of South Dakota and O'Odham of Arizona in conjunction with the National Conference of Catholic Bishops on issues of inculturation.
