The following description of the July 2004 workshop will be revised in August 2005:
This program is a five-day workshop for Native lay ministers and catechists will be held at the Sioux Spiritual Center in Plainview, South Dakota. The workshop, sponsored by the National Tekakwitha Conference and the Bishops' Ad Hoc Committee for Native American Catholics, will begin Tuesday, evening, July 6, 2004, at 6:00 PM (Mountain Daylight Time), and end on Sunday evening, July 11, 2004 at 6:00 PM, with departures to the Rapid City airport the next morning, July 12. Airport shuttle service will only be available at selected times: pick-up ONLY on Tuesday afternoon, July 6 [schedule your flight to arrive in Rapid City between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM]; return to the airport ONLY on Monday, July 12, arriving there by mid-morning [schedule your flight to depart at 11:00 AM or as soon thereafter as possible]. The cost of the shuttle service is $50.00.
There will be 25 hours of class work associated with the workshop. Speakers will cover topics that include catechetics, sacraments, inculturation, prayer and an introduction to Scripture. The workshop will be conducted in a spiritual atmosphere with emphasis on prayer and Catholic Native spirituality. Space is limited. Enrollment will be closed after 24 Native people who apply have been accepted. The cost for the workshop is $400.00. This includes room (double occupancy), meals and materials.
A fifty dollar deposit is required with the application. (The deposit is not refundable after June 15, 2004. Checks are payable to the Sioux Spiritual Center.)
When you are accepted an additional payment of $150 is due by June 1, 2004 . (This payment is not refundable after June 15, 2004.)
A final payment of $200 is due upon arrival at the workshop.
