Blessed Miguel |
This is the ordination card for Pro and those young men with whom he was ordained in Belgium.
This photo is most often seen cropped to show only Blessed Miguel.
Here he is standing by the President's house directly in front of a policeman!
This is the police photo taken the day of his execution.
This is much clearer than many versions seen of the same photo.
This is the telegram sent by Pro's superior, Father Vega, to announce his death. Father Vega was at Ysleta College in El Paso, a Jesuit institution. The telegram reads: Today in Mexico City, Father Miguel Agustin Pro died, shot because of the government of President Calles, aftr blessing the soldiers that executed him. He was 36 years old and 16 years in the Company (ie. a Jesuit). The last line is to remind the Jesuits to pray for the repose of his soul.
In most versions this photo is seen without the words below; it is an early memorial card for him.
In the archives of the California Province of the Jesuits at Los Gatos, there are two editions of this prayer card. One has a blank reverse side and the other is a post card, published by Isart Duran, in Barcelona. It has the inscription: "De Una Poesia Francesca Escrita Durante su Convalecencia en Belgica." "Caridad de Dios Santo! En tu seno me abismo! Ya solo Tu me bastas, Fuente de Caridad. Hiere, pues, a tu victima, y que a un tiempo mismo. Pues todo te lo he dado, nada me queda ya...!!!"The post card has a handwritten notation by an unknown hand about the photograph:"Photo taken by John J. Druhan, S.J. while Fr. Pro was recovering from an operation in a Belgian hospital. Fr. J.J.D. was in the hospital with him & was in Woodstock [College, Maryland] evidently studying on October 7, 1928." Druhan (1893-1958) was a member of the New Orleans Province.

This photo shows Pro's first resting place at the Dolores Cemetery.
