Louis Come Forth

Louis,
what you saw
that night
as a deeper darkness
closed around you -
weighing heavily
on your chest
and choking
your very life
away -
you will never
quite remember.
As Aloysius Gonzaga
closed your eyes
and waved away
every fear
with a shower
of falling roses,
your senses too
eclipsed
and only the soul
recalls the
miracle.
No need now
to strain yourself
to see
what cannot be seen
or to hear the voice
only Lazarus
has heard.
When doubt again
begins to crush
your green hopes
Louis,
picture - dream of
the Lord Jesus
and His angel
Aloysius
unbinding you
and calling you
back to
life.
