The Time of Micha-El
Mid-August
all is hushed
and heavy...
we sleep summer's
last dream, until
the night of the shooting stars
spills iron
all over the earth
in a shower of fiery petals.
Then are both
Rosh Hashanah and
Yom Kippur welcome,
lit like menorahs
from within.
This blessed repentance
calls for a show of
mercy and strength,
bringing on the
Time of Micha-El,
who is like God,
and hovers over
the difficult wake
of Autumn
as the reflected
intensity and power
of the
Harvest Moon.
