St. Patrick
Patrick,
I saw you tonite
on the subway
shimmering behind
a curtain of rain,
a being in shadow
bespeckled by pinpoints
of light.
No one had to tell me
it was you, lonely shepherd,
though I could not
distinguish as much as
a hand or line
of your lovely face.
I felt your spirit, and
averted my eyes not
wanting anyone to see
my love.
This was the first time
I really understood
Aloysius keeping
his gaze inward,
or little Therese
blushing scarlet at the
slightest touch of God.
And when you disappeared
my holy holy bishop,
I was covered
with confusion
and heard my spirit
cry out to you,
"dear father,
when O when
will the staff
flower?"
