The Dying Slave

In snow (in winter)
in fog and downpour
(all year round),
but especially now,
in the heat of summer,
when the sky is full
and aches to spill over,
there is a natural
blend.
Heat rises to meet
the heavy sky
and separate earth tones
and celestial blues
vanish in a wash
of gray.
I am at home then,
and the ceaseless prayer,
the writhe of contradiction,
the hunger for union,
and yearning heavenward
stop
when I see
how lovingly
the sky touches
the earth.
