St. Benedict Joseph Labre
Patron of the Lost and Homeless
1748 - 1783
Feastday April 16thMatthew 5
Blessed are the poor in spirit
Blessed are the sorrowful
Blessed are the gentle
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for holiness
Blessed are the merciful
Blessed are the pure in heart
Blessed are the peacemakers
Blessed are they who are persecuted for justice
And blessed are you when they revile you,
and speak every evil against you....
Rejoice and be glad, for great is your
reward in heaven. One of the reasons that saints like Gemma, Benedict Joseph Labre and Dymphna are so popular today is that there is a great escalation of mental suffering today as we all try unsuccessfully to make sense out of utter the confusion and madness and violence that we are asked to live in. At some time or other we all go through a time which resembles a psychic break because the soul can never adapt to lies or insanity.
