The Woman Clothed With the Sun

This familiar image from Revelation
Chapter 12 takes a different turn in this icon .
There is no dragon waiting to devour the child,
only the two very present creatures
Brother Sun and Sister Moon surrounding the
Mother and Child. For me it is an image of
the triumph of the heart of the Mother of God.

The Woman Clothed With the Sun (Revelation 12) O dear and holy Mother of God,
you are clothed in the light
of Brother Sun with Sister Moon
as your footstool.

In your arms the Holy Child
is safe from peril, lifted high
in the protecting embrace of love.
You gaze at us from behind His light
with infinite compassion.
Together you are safe from
the ever pursuing evil, now
nowhere to be seen.
Within this heavenly halo
God fulfills at last the promise
of the triumph of your
Immaculate Heart.
Lift us too from all danger,
that our hearts may also
abide in Him and with you,
both now and forever.
Amen
