Our Lady of the New Advent

Our Lady of the New Advent

Prayer to Our Lady of the New Advent

O Lady and Mother
of the One who was and is and is to come,
dawn of the New Jerusalem,
we earnestly beseech you,
bring us by your intercession
so to live in love
that the Church, the Body of Christ,
may stand in this world's dark
as fiery icon of the New Jerusalem.
We ask you to obtain for us this mercy
through Jesus Christ, your Son and Lord,
who lives and reigns
with the Father in the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever.
Amen
Prayer composed by the Sisters of the Abbey of Walburga
of Boulder, Colorado

This icon is based both on the miraculous healing Mirozh Icon of the city of Pskov, and on the beautiful fourteenth century Spanish hymn to the Mother of God, "O Virgo Splendens," which says:

"O resplendent Virgin, here on the miraculous mountain
cleft everywhere by dazzling wonders,
and which all the faithful climb;
behold them with your merciful eye of love...."

Pope John Paul II has called this last decade of our century the "New Advent," and he prays the coming third millennium of Christianity will be a new era of fa ith.

This icon of Our Lady of the New Advent was presented to Pope John Paul II by Archbishop Francis Stafford of Denver, as a remembrance of World Youth Day, August 11-15, 1993, in Denver, Colorado.

The feast of Our Lady of the New Advent in the Archdiocese of Denver is December 16
