This icon is based both on the miraculous healing Mirozh Icon of the city of Pskov, and on the beautiful fourteenth century Spanish hymn to the Mother of God, "O Virgo Splendens," which says:
"O resplendent Virgin, here on the miraculous mountain
cleft everywhere by dazzling wonders,
and which all the faithful climb;
behold them with your merciful eye of love...."Pope John Paul II has called this last decade of our century the "New Advent," and he prays the coming third millennium of Christianity will be a new era of fa ith.
This icon of Our Lady of the New Advent was presented to Pope John Paul II by Archbishop Francis Stafford of Denver, as a remembrance of World Youth Day, August 11-15, 1993, in Denver, Colorado.
