Travel to Greece with Kathryn A. Thomas, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Classics and experienced archaeological tour guide.  Visit archaeological sites ranging from Minoan Crete through the Byzantine era.  Classical sites include Olympia and other major competitive game venues.  Those interested in classical literature will relish visits to Agamemnon’s Mycenae, Herakles’ Tiryns, and Nestor’s Pylos; while those more interested in scientific matters will enjoy Epidauros, one of the most important ancient healing shrines.  Mythology permeates Greece, but it takes on special significance at Apollo’s shrine at Delphi and at Eleusis, site of the Mysteries of Demeter.  Roman imperial times are reflected throughout the tour, but especially at Corinth and Athens, where participants walk in the footprints of St. Paul.  The enduring influence of Christianity is reflected in remains of the medieval towns of Mistra near Sparta and Palaiokhora on the island of Aegina, as well as in the beautifully preserved Byzantine churches and monasteries of Osios Loukas near Delphi, Agios Titos on Crete, and the Prophet Elias on Santorini.

Island visits include Crete, Aegina, and Santorini.  Mainland tour includes Athens, Piraeus, Corinth, Nemea, Mycenae, Epidauros, Lerna, Sparta, Mistra, Messene, Methoni, Pylos, Olympia, Patras, Delphi, Eleusis, Brauron, Thorikos, and Sounion.

Tour Features:  Land transportation based on the exclusive use of motor coach throughout.  Twin rooms with private bath on the basis of double occupancy.  Occupancy on overnight ferries based on four in a cabin.   Breakfasts and dinners throughout the tour.  The complete program of drives and excursions outlined in the itinerary, including the hire of all conveyances and entrance fees.  All necessary transfers between airports, hotels, and docks.

Study Tour Leader:  Dr. Thomas is Associate Professor of Classical and Near Eastern Studies at Creighton University. Her courses have included ancient medicine, ancient religions, Greek history, Greek Art and Archaeology, and Early Christian Art and Archaeology, in addition to classical and modern Greek language and Greek literature.  She has archaeological excavation experience in Israel and has conducted numerous archaeological study tours in Greece, Turkey, and Italy.
