CANES Major Claire O'Brien has been admitted to study in the Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies in Sciliy program! Please congratulate her for winning admission in stiff competition against students from these schools.

Providence College Prof. Timothy Mahoney will give the talk "Doing the Best They Can: The Bittersweet Happiness of Philosophers-Rulers in the Republic" at 3:30 pm in SC 104 on 5 November 2009.

18 August 2009: CANES Professor Jeffrey P. Hause awarded a prestigious Fulbright fellowship in French Studies!!
This fellowship goes to scholars in the humanities or social sciences who will engage in co-operative work with French scholars. His project is to research Aquinas's action theory in the light of his theories of virtue and responsibility, and his French sponsor is Cyrille Michon, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Nantes and co-founder of the Peter Abelard Center at the Sorbonne. He'll be at the University of Nantes in France from January until May of 2010.

17 August 2009: Prof. Bucher's article on the fragments of the Greek history of A. Postumius Albinus has now appeared in the Brill's New Jacoby edition of the fragments of Felix Jacoby's Fragmente der griechischen Historiker.

Summer 2009: It has been announced that Professors William O. Stephens and Jeffrey P. Hause now have primary appointments in CANES, and secondary appointments in Philosophy.

Summer 2009: Trevor Gerson (GRK '08) is now a married man! Congratulations, Trevor!

Summer 2009: CANES Professor Greg Bucher again led the Classical Summer School of the American Academy in Rome. It was a good summer, and he saw many exciting new monuments. Among the students was CANES CNE major Sarah Schmidt ('07). 2008 Classical Summer School student Jenny Fotsch (CANES LAT '03) has announced her engagement to fellow 2008 Summer Schooler Chad Austino, currently studying toward the PhD at Duke University. Congratulations!!
