Seminar 4 (S4)- Service Learning Curriculum
Development:
This seminar will focus on integrating specific
service learning projects/activities into faculty particular field.
Faculty may revise or create a new course, or create additional options
for service learning (such as interdisciplinary or linked courses).
Curriculum development issues, classroom/service site management, and
classroom assessment issues will also be discussed in this seminar;
thus covering the final preparation in implementing faculty course.
Showcase of the Seminar:
Following this rotation of S1-S4, a College-wide
three-hour workshop will be conducted by the seminar participants for
the full faculty on what service learning means in the Creighton College
of Arts and Sciences. It is the hope that following this workshop, other
faculty will become interested in engaging in service-learning and implementing
service-learning into their courses, thus increasing the opportunities
for students to engage in the Jesuit mission at its fullest.
Other Special Features:
Library Commitment:
The Reinert Alumni Library has made a contribution
of $10,000 for obtaining resources on service learning. Their generosity has allowed us to order
several materials to aid in faculty development efforts. Mike Poma, Educational
Services Coordinator, is on the Service-Learning Advisory Board and is our service-learning library liaison.
Guest Speakers:
Throughout the developmental seminars, guest
speakers (national and local) will be invited to share their ideas on service learning. These individuals
will be service-learning community leaders, as well as scholars in service-learning
fields.
Participant Benefits:
Faculty participation in the faculty developmental
seminars has several benefits. Each individual is allowed a budget per
semester for curriculum resources, support for convention travel, and
a funded trip to the Dominican Republic.
