My first day of touring was devoted to a drive around part of the island. We went from Kihea (were I am now) which has a rather arid climate to the other side of the island to Hana-- lots of rain-- enough to turn us back before we got to our final goal. We then went to the original settlement on Maui called . I'm most amazed at the microclimates on this island-- one side a desert and one a tropical rain forest and pieces of each scattered here and there dependent on wind and sea and mountain formation. There is also lots of sugar cane and pineapple grown on the island.
