The Road Report
Guam to Yap: From the Air
March 14, 1999

The weather between Guam and Yap was about flawless so the plane ride was smooth and, due to a continued lack of sleep from catching early planes, I was too tired to get too anxious. So I sat in the plane and took pictures through the window-- not an easy task as one has to calculate for glare and scratched plastic-- the pictures came out pretty well though....

Guam form the air as we left the island. Note the hotels in the lower left of the picture.

A lagoon (blue) along the shore of Guam.

The first glimpse of Yap.... the barrier reef around the island-- note the spectacular (for a Mavica) colors of the water.

The shoreline of the island comes into view as we cross the main island in preparation for landing.

The island-- note the roads and house tops in the villages.

More of the terrain of Yap.

We flew to the very south end of the island and proceeded north to the airport. This is a shot along the barrier reef.

Another shot of the reef-- after this it was airport and runway.... not quite as prosaic!
