Bangkok: Gargoyles

Here are some stonework details form various temple shrines. Technically not gargoils, I'm not sure what to call some so I'll stick with this designation. I'll draw your attention to two images below which I found particularly interesting.







The man on the bottom is definitely an Egyptian-- an interesting updating of the aesthetic tradition! Note also the large noses and thick beards.... more imports!!!



The man on top is in a suit and tie. St. John the Divine Cathedral has such "contemporary" images in much of its carvings-- Kwakiutl Indian masks and skyscrapers, for instance.


















I know, this in not a gargolye but it is useful information, especially to one who can't read Thai!!!
