The Road Report
Bangkok: Bird's Eye View
February 5, 1999

There is a temple located way up on an artificial mound (Bangkok is basically flat like Chicago) which affords a grand view of the city-- a bit polluted but a fascinating blend of old and new. Take a look!

A young Buddhist monk observing the scenery.

Down for a closer look--- I, not liking heights much, kept my distance from the edge!

The Stupa on the top if the tower-- note the iron ladder up the side for maintenance.

A Stupa in another part of Bangkok-- note the interesting contrast with the television and radio towers.

View of temple area-- note have symmetrically the grounds are laid out.

Another area of traditional architecture.

A view of Bangkok away from the modern buildings-- this area was originally swamp land and later cut into canals-- some of which still exist. One "flows" past my house here but I don't think you would want to take a dip in it!!

View of neighboring temple from the tower. Again, I'm not much of a guide!!!
