PSYCHOLOGICAL ANTHROPOLOGY

The purpose of this course is to gain a better understanding of psychological anthropology and the theorists who have contributed to the discipline.  These theories will then be applied to a particular case study (to be determined at a later date) in order to fully comprehend the material at hand.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

·        To understand the historical development of psychological anthropology

·        To understand the different theorists perspectives on psychological anthropology

·        To be able to analyze a particular culture in light of these theories

Conerly Casey & Robert B. Egerton.  A Companion to Psychological Anthropology

Charles Lindholm.  Culture & Identity: The History, Theory, and Practice of Psychological Anthropology

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:

I will meet with Father Bucko on a weekly basis, either in person or online, in order to turn in reading summaries and to discuss any pertinent or troublesome material.

 

ACADEMIC HONESTY:

I will oblige by Creighton University’s policy on academic honesty.  Any infringement of this will lead to my dismissal from the class, resulting in a failing grade.

 

ASSESSMENT:

My grade in this course will depend on the following items:

·        Fidelity to weekly meetings

·        Complete set of reading notes

·        Final paper of approximately 20-30 pages

·        Written evaluation of the success of the learning process in this course
