Biographical Information:

I am a product of rural Iowa where I grew up and urban southern California where I earned my B.A. (UCLA) and my Ph.D. (UC Irvine).  My education gave me the skills to do scientific and humanistic research on peoples and cultures in Latin American and the American Midwest.  My family farming experience provided the focus for meaningful engagement in critical issues confronting rural peoples throughout the globe.  I engage in participant-observation research in Northeast Iowa to better understand how citizens in rural communities protect their environmental resources and preserve their family centered lifestyle amidst economic decline and social change.
