Departmental Data

Majors, Co-Majors, Graduates

1992 to 2005

The data on majors and co majors, as well as the current roster list were obtained from student lists for each semester.  Until the fall of 2003 the information was extracted from the data on the University’s SIS system.  Beginning with the fall of 2004, the information was extracted from the Banner Student system.  Because the migration from the SIS system to Banner occurred in the spring of 2004, information for that semester was not available.  For that reason the spring 2004 numbers in the majors’ and co majors’ tables are estimates based on the adjacent terms.  The information on graduates was obtained from the Registrar or from the University fact book.

The data in the tables and charts count all undergraduate students who are following Arts and Sciences Majors or Co-Majors, including those in CoBA, Nursing and University College.  The numbers reported for economics majors and graduates, however, count only Arts and Sciences students.

The advisor list includes only Arts and Sciences students.

Advisor List as of October 12, 2006

This document lists the primary academic advisors for each student in the college as of the date on the report.   Although it was extracted from the student data in Banner, the document is not dynamically updated.  We plan to issue updated advisor lists regularly through the semester.  In the meantime, any person with access to Banner Student Baseline (not Self Service) can view the list of any student’s current advisors through the SGAADVR form.

I have been asked to post a list that can be sorted.  I plan to do that soon, but I wanted to post this updated list as soon as I extracted it.

Course Enrollments Fall 2001 to Spring 2006

This document includes section by section enrollments in all courses offered by the College from 2001 to 2006.

The list is organized by subject, not by department, and each subject is bookmarked.

Majors

The information on majors for the semesters before the fall of 2002 was extracted in 2002 from lists obtained through the Registrar from the SIS data system.  The data for the fall of 2002 and the spring and fall of 2003 were obtained during each semester from the same source.  Beginning with the fall of 2004, the information was obtained directly from the Banner system.  Since students may declare their majors at any time in the semester, the semester counts are a snapshot of the number of majors at the time the information was collected.  Since data were collected at different times each semester, semester-to-semester trends should be viewed with skepticism.  Changes over longer periods are more meaningful.

Table 1:  Majors

This table gives a semester-by-semester count of students in each major within the College.

Table 2:  Majors as Percent

This table reports the information on majors as a percent of the total number of majors.

Table 3:  Majors and Co-Majors: Fall 2005

This document contains lists of all students who are currently accepted majors or co-majors in each program.  The information is arranged by department or program.

Chart Set A: Overview of Majors.

The five charts in this file display the number of majors each spring in each program.

Chart Set B: Overview of Majors-Percent of Total

The five charts in this set display the data of Set A expressed as a percent of the total number of majors.

Graduates

Table 3:  Degrees

The number of graduates reported for each year is the total number of degrees granted at the May commencement of that year and in the August and December preceding that commencement.  The data in this table are reported as actual numbers of graduates.

Table 4:  Degrees as Percent

The number of graduates reported for each year is the total number of degrees granted at the May commencement of that year and in the August and December preceding that commencement.  The data in this table are reported as percent of the total number of Arts and Sciences graduates.

Chart Set C: Graduates .

This file includes two charts for each set of degrees.  The first shows the actual number of graduates.  The second records the same data expressed as a percent of the total number of degrees.

Co-Majors

Table 5 and the charts in Chart Set D display information on co-majors.

          Table 5:  Co-majors

Chart Set D:  Co-majors

Departmental Charts

The charts in these files include major and graduate data displayed on separate graphs for each major.  As in Chart Sets A, B and C, the data are displayed both as actual numbers (the line charts in the set) and as percentages of the total (the bar graphs).  I also included trend lines where possible.  The trend lines are the smooth lines labeled "poly" on each graph.
