Dr. Jerry E. Clark
Biography

Dr. Clark was born and raised in Central Iowa and graduated from Ames High School. He went to the now defunct Westmar College in LeMars where he took his B.A. with majors in Sociology and History. With no bids from any major league team, all of whom accurately assessed his rather mediocre baseball skills; he went to the University of Wisconsin where he got a masters degree in History.

While teaching at a junior college in Marshalltown, Iowa and a Luther College in Decorah, Iowa for four years,  he discovered the exciting world of archeology and anthropology.  Clark then enrolled at the University of Kentucky where he took a Ph.D. in Anthropology. He taught two years at Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois and came to Creighton in 1976 where he has been ever since.

Dr. Clark’s academic interests began in the study of Native American Cultures. He has written a book on the Shawnee based on his dissertation research. After receiving a Fullbright Fellowship to Indonesia, he has developed a long-term interest in the cultures of Asia as well. More recently he has converted his passion for baseball into another academic interest in the anthropology of sport.

Dr. Clark loves to travel and experience other cultures and people and has made several trips to Europe as well as Asia. In addition to travel one of his favorite leisure time activities is attending baseball games. He has written three books on baseball in recent years and is presently working on a manuscript on Native American sports and games.
