You are expected to conduct yourself in an ethical manner. I expect honesty and integrity in all of our dealings with each other. We do not have to agree with each other about issues, but we must treat each other, and the academic enterprise, with dignity and respect. Very often, the topics we study involve current social problems and evoke powerful emotional reactions. During such occasions it is even more important that we rely on the analytic skills we are trying to develop and strengthen. Among other things, this means that discussions will focus on issues and evidence. Ad hominen attacks simply have no place in civil discourse, and will not be tolerated. Academic dishonesty (deliberate or blatant plagiarism on your papers, cheating on quizzes, lab assignments or exams) will not be tolerated. They will result in a grade of F for the course, and will be referred to the appropriate disciplinary committees of the university. If I believe you have not demonstrated the honesty and integrity expected of Creighton students in the completion of your course work, I will notify you that I intend to charge you with academic dishonesty, award a grade of “F” for the course, and I will notify the appropriate disciplinary committees of the College. You have the right to appeal, to me first, then to the Creighton College of Arts & Sciences Committee on Academic Policy, Discipline, and Appeals, and finally, to Father President. |
